Friedrichshöhe is located directly on the "Rennsteig" ridge trail within the Thuringian Forest, also known as the "Green Heart" because of its central location in Germany. The place was once the smallest community in the GDR and has now been turned into the "Thuringian Forest" nature park, therefore being spared from hotels and tourist facilities.
