The world heritage city is located directly on the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast (Wismar Bay) between the Hanseatic cities of Rostock and Lübeck. It impresses with its Hanseatic charm and maritime flair. The Hanseatic city of Wismar was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002 and offers many historical sites. You should definitely take a look at the impressive brick churches, the largest market square in northern Germany with water art and the "Alter Schwede" restaurant.
But the harbor with its beautifully designed promenade is also directly opposite and is absolutely worth seeing with its restaurants and market hall. The Wonnemar leisure and adventure pool and the zoo offer families with children in particular an exciting variety.
The Mecklenburg Baltic coast offers many great sandy beaches, such as the Wohlenberger Wiek (15 km) and the Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen (25 km). The island of Poel with its many great beaches (approx. 15 km) is particularly popular, also with cyclists. Zierow (approx. 6 km) offers a child-friendly sandy beach with shallow bathing areas, a playground, mini golf, a petting zoo and various localities. From here you can reach many destinations in the area - also by public transport.
