The Devon countryside is friendly, with gently rolling hills, heather moors, wide open spaces, woodland river valleys, and country lanes zigzagging through the countryside, passing old villages with thatched cottages. The scenery was the inspiration for novels by amongst others Jane Austin and murder mystery author Agatha Christie. From your cottage in Devon it is great to tour the countryside, past villages and castles, or towards the coast. And on the way, you should stop in a tea-room for a real cream tea !

Cottages in Devon, starting point for walks and excursions

Devon has a wonderful and varied country side including two major national parks: Exmoor National Park, in the North and Dartmoor, in the South. In the mysterious Dartmoor National Park you will find heather, granite rocks, bridges and small rivers. Besides its nature the region also has numerous historical sights such as castles and abbeys to offer.

Holiday homes on the coast

Along the coastline youll find fishing villages, seaside resorts, bays and clippers. The North coast is wild, with high cliffs. Visit here the picturesque fishing village Clovelly, with its steep streets. The 'sub-tropical' South coast is more peaceful and is often called the English Riviera. A popular resort here is Lyme Regis. The coast here is often called the Jurassic Coast and is listed on the world heritage list of UNESCO. Another popular holiday resort is Torquay.

Also visit Plymouth
