Central Sweden

A holiday home in Central Sweden (Svealand): a relaxing escape!

The central provinces of Sweden are together referred to as Svealand. This region of the country is home to sparkling lakes, vast pine forests, mountains, woods and traditional red wooden houses called stugas. The capital of Sweden, Stockholm, is located on the eastern coast of the country. Discover the heart of Sweden and get acquainted with the traditional rural lifestyle of the region while staying in one of our holiday homes or traditional stugas in Central Sweden.

Explore the picturesque nature of Svealand from the comfort of a holiday home

Central Sweden is resplendent with unspoilt nature. Discover the national parks of Central Sweden like Sånfjället, Töfsingdalen, Fulufjället, Hamra and Färnebofjärden. The Sånfjället mountain and surrounding forests make up the most important brown bear habitat in Scandinavia. Other wild animals you may encounter here include wolves and lynxes. And in Fulufjället National Park in Dalarna, you will find breathtakingly beautiful and pristine nature, including wetlands, primeval forests, canyons and the Njupeskär waterfall (the highest in Sweden). Here you will also find unique flora and fauna like the brown bear, wolverine, lynx and moose.

Outdoor activities in Central Sweden

Sweden is the ideal outdoor destination. Central Sweden has an abundance of untouched nature and outdoor recreational and sightseeing activities. The provinces of Dalarna and Värmland have much to offer. Dalarna is also a popular holiday destination among the Swedes. It is an area of astounding beauty, with pristine wilderness, deep woods (home to moose, bears, wolves, wolverines and lynxes) and the beautiful Lake Siljan. Dalarna is perfect for a wide range of outdoor sports, from salmon and trout fishing to canoeing, swimming, bicycling, and, in the wintertime, downhill and cross-country skiing. You can also visit the Orsa Grönklitt Bear Park here, the largest of its kind in Europe. Värmland has no shortage of scenic beauty. Here you can take long walks in immense forests and fish, canoe or raft on numerous lakes. Light a campfire on one of the small deserted islands for that genuine back-to-nature feeling!

Stockholm, the Venice of the North

While staying at a holiday home in Central Sweden, you can also take a trip to the capital of Sweden, Stockholm, one of the loveliest cities in the world. The city is built on 14 islands that are connected by bridges, earning the city the title of ‘Venice of the North’. One of these islands, located in the heart of the city, is called Gamla Stan. Spend the day strolling the narrow streets, charming squares and inviting shops of this medieval city centre. Make sure not to miss the impressive changing of the guard in front of the Royal Palace in Stockholm! The subway network below the city is perfect for discovering all the beautiful and exciting sites of Stockholm while staying in your Belvilla apartment. You are sure to be amazed by the innovative graffiti, stunning mosaics and other forms of artistic expression on the walls of Stockholm’s subway stations. The eastern coast of Sweden is also home to the Stockholm Archipelago, a unique landscape of (mostly uninhabited) islands, idyllic bays and cliffs. You can visit the archipelago by boat during the summer season. Experience Central Sweden while staying in an idyllically located Belvilla holiday home!
