The island of peace and space

With its high dunes, vast forests and sturdy dikes, Vlieland offers an oasis of peace and wide, open spaces. Vlieland is greener than the other Wadden Islands: you will be greeted by pine forests, from the moment you jump off the boat. Book a holiday in Vlieland and while away the hours in the natural surroundings of your holiday home.

From September to October the cranberry harvest takes place, and you can pick ripe cranberries by hand. In this period, your holiday home is the ideal starting point for local activities during the cranberry season. You can try a range of specialities at Proef Lokaal Vlieland and many of the restaurants serve special menus which showcase the local cranberries. As a true cooking enthusiast, you will of course enjoy preparing your own meals in the kitchen of your holiday home too. Make delicious pancakes in the morning from fresh cranberries or delicious cranberry muffins.

A more challenging way to explore the beautiful nature of Vlieland is mudflat walking. There are several organisations that you can join. Your guide that will tell you all about this nature reserve. While walking on the mudflats, you will walk on a dry seabed, where you will encounter everything from plants to fish, various species of water birds and sunbathing seals. As well as mudflat walking you can also do a bit of island hopping. The idea behind island hopping is that you also discover the other (neighbouring) islands in the Wadden Sea. With an easy boat connection, you can spend a few hours on the islands of Texel, Ameland, Schiermonnikoog or Terschelling. After an action-packed day, your holiday home on Vlieland offers a relaxing base where you can relax and unwind.

Like most of the Wadden Islands, Vlieland also has a lighthouse. It is a fairly small tower of 18 meters, but still offers a stunning view over the island and the Wadden Sea! Close to this lighthouse is the cosy Dorpsstraat, or the centre of Vlieland. This offers a number of souvenir shops but also clothes shops, restaurants and bars with sun terraces. In this pretty street, you will also find museum Tromp's Huys. In the oldest building of Vlieland, you will learn all about the island's impressive, historical past.

Sports enthusiasts can also indulge in energetic activities on Vlieland. There is even a beach golf course, 'Beach Golf', if you fancy a round of golf on holiday. The real adventurer might want to have a go at surf-rafting! Equipped with a wetsuit and life jacket, a rubber dinghy will defy the wild waves of Vlieland. After a fun-packed day full of activities, you can relax and unwind in your own holiday home. Create a delicious meal in your own kitchen or reserve a table for a culinary treat in the centre.
