Alentejo

Discover Portugal from a holiday home in Alentejo. The Alentejo region lies between the Lisboa region in the north-west, and the Algarve in the south. This sparsely populated region covers a large area of Portugal (almost a third of the country), and is an exceptional region to discover from our holiday homes in Alentejo. The landscape is rural and hilly, with olive groves, cork oak groves, golden cornfields, and vineyards. To the south, the landscape becomes drier and more level. Alentejo has a beautiful wild coast with hidden coves, cliffs and sand dunes.

Discover this special region from our holiday homes in Alentejo

There are plenty of nice trips to make from all the holiday homes. The region has many interesting monuments and historic fortified towns. There are also remnants of prehistoric times, such as the stone circles and dolmen. On the hills, you can see some walled towns that testify to a battle-filled past with the Moors. It is nice to visit one of the historic towns during your visit to Alentejo. Like the medieval Monsaraz or the white village of Marvão, for example. Castelo de Vide, a spa town, is also well worth a visit. Walk through the steep, winding streets of the Jewish quarter, visit the 13th-century synagogue, or inspect the medieval fortress. The UNESCO city of Évora is a must see.

Enjoy nature from your holiday home in Alentejo

There are a number of nature reserves, like the Parque Natural da Serra de S. Mamede in the north, the Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana and the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina on the coast. From the top of the S. Mamede, at a height of 1025 meters, you can gaze out over the region.

Beaches include the seaside resort of Vila Nova de Milfontes, the picturesque fishing village of Porto Covo, Praia do Malhão, Almograve, Zambujeira do Mar, Carvalhal, Odeceixe and the small island of Ilha do Pessegueiro. Inland reservoirs also offer refreshment. You can also go for a refreshing dip in your holiday home with a pool!

Enjoy a glass of wine on your holiday home's terrace

Enjoy a relaxing stay in the heart of nature during your holiday in Alentejo. Alentejo is a true wine region, and the fruity wines have a high reputation. The main wine types can be classified in 3 white and 3 red wines. The white wines are Roupeiro, Rabo de Ovelha, and Antão Vaz. The red wines are Periquita, Trincadeira, and Aragonez. Perfect in combination with one of the other local products, like cheese, sausage, honey and olive oil. To end the day, enjoy a local wine on the terrace of your holiday home in Alentejo, and your holiday is complete!
